In Nepal, there are many restaurants serving this Tibetian momos chutney with momos. It goes really well with momos, spring rolls, and bread rolls. This chutney recipe requires only 8 ingredients and all the ingredients are easily available or maybe you might have all 8 ingredients in your kitchen pantry right now.

This chutney is garlicky, spicy, and with the flavor of sesame seeds. I am a fan of both momos chutney which is Tibetan style and Nepali style momos chutney. Give this recipe a try and make sure to share feedback with me.

How to make spicy chutney for momos

In a pan add 1 tablespoon of oil (canola oil, vegetable oil, or sesame oil), 2 tablespoons white sesame seed, 7-8 dried red chilli, 12 cloves of garlic, 1 small onion, 1 medium tomato, salt (as per taste), and 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder.

Mix it well and cook it at medium flame by stirring more often. Cook it until the onion turns transparent and the tomato peel starts to come off.

Note– Do not overcook the mixture, otherwise the taste may differ.

Turn off the flame once the chutney mixture is cooked and let it cool down to normal room temperature. Transfer the mixer to a blending jar and blend it until smooth.

Transfer the sesame momo chutney to a bowl and serve it momos or spring roll. This chutney will have a beautiful orange color and goes really well with momos and spring rolls.

Top Tips

  • Do not overcook the chutney mixture otherwise, you will get a burnt taste. Cook it until the onion becomes transparent and the tomato peel starts to come off.
  • You can store it in an airtight container in a refrigerator for 5 to 6 days.
