All the spices and herbs used in this recipe are very easily available in every Indian pantry.

Talking about taste it gives a very soothing effect to throat it has strong flavour of herbs and spices but on the other side jaggery makes it little sweet. It has the perfect balance of taste.

I have seen in many tv serials where they show kadha as a very tasteless thing but it’s not true. where actor act as if they are drinking something really bad. It tastes good trust me it’s not bitter or something like that.😅

This kadha is also natural home remedy for mensural cramps or you can drink it if your periods are late.

It is a cure for many things but remember not to drink it in large quantities as spices are hot in nature and anything taken more than needed can cause harm.

Ingredients

  • Tulsi leaves: tulsi leaves or holy basil are easily available at any Indian household if you don’t have tulsi plant you can get some leaves from your neighbour or simply ask for its seeds and grow your own tulsi at your house. It may also be available in ayurvedic stores.
  • Spices: cloves, black cardamom, green cardamom, cinnamon stick, fennel seeds and nutmeg. these spices are very easily available in any Indian kitchen pantry.
  • Carrom seeds: carrom seeds also known as ajwain in Hindi is herb. It is easily available at grocery store or Ayurvedic shop or buy it online. (Tip: you can have ajwain with black salt for period stomach pain or for normal stomach pain it works really well)
  • Other: ginger, jaggery and water. Jaggery can be substituted with brown sugar or honey or sugar.

How to make kadha

Crush black cardamom, green cardamom, cloves, carrom seeds, fennel seeds and cinnamon stick in the mortar and pestle or cover it in a kitchen cloth and crush it with rolling pin.

Then in a pot add water, crushed spices, freshly crushed black pepper powder, tulsi leaves, nutmeg or jaayaphal powder, grated ginger and jaggery.

Give it a mix and let it boil at low to medium flame for 7-10 minutes. transfer the kadha to a serving glass and serve it hot.

FAQs

How to make kadha without tulsi?

Don’t add tulsi leaves and rest of the ingredients and process will be same. you can also replace tulsi leaves with mint leaves.

How to make giloy kadha?

Add ingredients of your choice if you only want to add giloy then add giloy, water and jaggery or add same ingredients mentioned above with giloy and rest of the process will be same.

What else you can add in it?

Turmeric, giloy, garlic, lemon juice or even mulethi can also be added and instead of jaggery you can use honey or brown sugar or you can skip it.

Is it okay to drink kadha daily?

Yes it is ok to drink kadha daily, I drink it once a day and I drink it twice whenever I am suffering from cold or cough.

If you’re drinking kadha in large quantity then it can harm your body. so drink it just like tea once a day or twice a day is enough.

Can kadha be stored?

Yes it can be stored for a day, reheat it and drink it. don’t store it for more than 1 day make it fresh and drink it fresh.

If you have added lemon in your kadha then you can’t reheat it because it may become bitter in taste.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon carrom seeds
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 black cardamom 
  • 2 green cardamom 
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick 
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder 
  • 10-12 tulsi leaves
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg powder 
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger 
  • 1 tablespoon jaggery
  • 3 cup water

Instructions

    Crush 2 black cardamom, 2 green cardamom, 4 cloves, 1/2 teaspoon carrom seeds, 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds and 1 inch cinnamon stick in the mortar and pestle or cover it in a kitchen cloth and crush it with rolling pin.

    Now in a pot add 3 cup water, crushed spices, 1/2 teaspoon freshly crushed black pepper powder, 10-12 tulsi leaves, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg or jaayaphal powder, 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger and 1 tablespoon jaggery.

    Give it a mix and let it boil at low to medium flame for 7-10 minutes. transfer the kadha to a serving glass and serve it hot.

Notes
