Muskmelon or cantaloupe also known as kharbuja in Hindi. it is very popular fruit in summers as it has high content of water, full of fibre and tastes delicious. It keeps our body cool and fight with summer heat.

I always collect muskmelon seeds during every summers and it stays with me for 7-8 months because I eat it mostly everyday, I really like removing its shell and eating it.

Don’t discard the seeds it is very nutritious and it is used in many different recipes. so rather than buying you can make your own dried seeds at home.

It has nutty and slight sweet taste to it. you can even make roasted cumin powder or quinoa flour at home.

Drying the seeds is not the tough task, it will hardly takes 10-15 minutes to wash, rinse and clean the seed. rest you don’t need to do any work it will take 1 day to dry completely.

Even a beginner can make this recipe as you need only 1 ingredient and some water to wash.

  • Wash and cut the muskmelon or cantaloupe, scoop out all the seeds and little flesh which is sticked to seeds from the centre with the help of spoon.

  • Their is not enough quantity of seeds in just one muskmelon so I have collected seeds a day before from 2 muskmelon and used it next day with it.
  • Transfer the muskmelon seeds to the steamer plate or wheat strainer or any dish which has small hole in it.
  • If you don’t have any of these then use strainer but it takes more time to drain water as it has small space to drain and we have to wash it thoroughly. it may take little more time when using strainer.
  • Remove slimy strings or any pulp from it as shown in images or checkout the video. put the seeds under water and wash it thoroughly, Remove-Wash-Repeat.
  • After 4 to 5 wash seeds will be cleaned transfer it over the muslin cloth or kitchen towel and cover it. It will take one day to dry completely.
  • This seed doesn’t require sun, it can dried in the normal room temperature. when seeds are dried store it in an airtight container.

  • There are not enough seeds in just one muskmelon, so before drying seeds you can collect at least 2-3 muskmelon seeds and keep them in the refrigerator, use them the next day. don’t keep the fresh seeds in the refrigerator for more than 2 days otherwise it will start smelling.
  • Store dried muskmelon seeds in an airtight container, it stays fresh for 1 year in refrigerator and can stay fresh for 1-2 months at normal room temperature.
