This eggless chocolate banana bread with quinoa flour recipe is super satisfying, delicious and naturally gluten-free.

It is soft, moist, slightly grainy, nutty and earthy in taste. Quinoa flour tastes and look little bit like wheat flour, while baking your kitchen will filled with nutty and earthy aroma.

This quinoa flour banana bread recipe is very simple to make and to make the step more simpler I have blended all the wet ingredients so no mashing and beating. you can make the banana bread batter in less than 10 minutes.

If you have leftover overripe use it in making banana bread instead of throwing, if you don’t have quinoa flour then make quinoa flour at home.

but if you don’t have quinoa to make quinoa flour then make this banana bread recipe or substitute quinoa flour with all purpose flour.

Ingredients & Substitutes

✔️Flax-egg: For 1 egg vegan replacement= 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds+3 tablespoon water. ground flax seeds can be substituted with 1 tablespoon chia seeds with the same amount of water.

✔️Wet ingredients: use ripe or over ripe bananas with black spots, powdered sugar can be substituted with coconut sugar, cane sugar, powdered jaggery or maple syrup.

Canola oil can be substituted with regular vegetable oil or canola oil or coconut oil. water can be substituted with milk.

✔️Dry ingredients: make your own quinoa flour at home, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon powder and oats.

Quinoa flour can be substituted with all purpose flour or wheat flour. you can also use the combination of 1/2 cup all purpose flour and 1/2 cup quinoa flour

How to make banana bread

  • Preheat the oven at 180 C or 355 F.
  • In a small bowl add ground flax seeds and water, mix it nicely and keep it aside. It is the vegan egg substitute and after 5 to 6 minutes it will become thick and have gel-like consistency.

  • Let’s make cake batter now- In a blender add ripe bananas, oil, powdered sugar, vanilla essence or extract and water.
  • Blend it until smooth, transfer the mixture to a bowl then add flax-egg in it and mix it well.
  • Now sift in quinoa flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon powder.
  • Combine it nicely and fold in oats, the batter shouldn’t be runny it should be thick.
  • Transfer the cake batter to a greased and flour dusted cake tin. top it with lots of chocolate chips and little oats
  • Bake it in a preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.
  • Let the banana bread cool down for 15 to 20 minutes then transfer it over a wire rack. slice, serve and enjoy.

Top tips

  • Use overripe banana as it has natural sweetness, if the banana is less sweet increase the quantity of sugar if the banana is more sweet then decrease the amount of sugar, check the sweetness by tasting a drop of cake batter and add sugar or any sweetener accordingly.
  • Flax egg can be substituted with chia egg. (1 tablespoon chia seeds+3 tablespoon water)
  • Sugar can be substituted with powdered jaggery, coconut sugar, maple syrup or brown sugar.
  • Don’t over bake check the bread after 20-25 of baking using toothpick or skewer, if it is baked remove it from oven.
  • Cinnamon powder can be substituted with pumpkin spice or nutmeg.
  • For extra crunch you can add walnuts, pecan or any dry fruits in the batter but make sure to toss it in the flour to prevent sinking.
  • If you don’t have cake mould use aluminium foil loaf mould, it is disposable and I have used the same in the recipe.
  • Don’t store it for more than 3 days.

  • 1 cup quinoa flour 
  • 3 tablespoon cocoa powder 
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder 
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder 
  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence 
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seeds
  • 3 tablespoon water
  • Chocolate chips
