My mother make this papad salad in many varieties sometimes she use savoury biscuit(crack-jack) instead of papad, sometimes she use nachos and sometimes she uses our desi Kurkure.
You should try these other varieties as well and make sure to share with me that how it turned out.
I love quick snacks especially when I don’t want to spend more time in the kitchen and want to have something spicy or cheesy or sometimes sweet.
This recipe doesn’t requires perfect measurements or quantity of each ingredients you can increase or decrease the amount of ingredients.
You can try both the ways to make masala papad or either fried one or roasted one both has the different taste.
Enjoy this perfect combination of papad and salad.
Ingredients:
- Papad: I have used readymade urad dal papad, my favourite is lijjat papad. If you have homemade papad you can use that too.
- Toppings & spices: I have used chopped tomatoes, onion, coriander leaves, pomegranate seeds, bhujiya, chutney and other spices like cumin powder, pepper powder and salt.
You can even use carrot, boiled corns, puffed rice, boiled potatoes, aloo bhujiya, sev, chutney or any toppings of your choice
How to make papad salad
Roasted papad salad:
- Take a urad dal papad and roast it on a hot tawa by pressing it with kitchen towel and roasting it from both the side or you can directly roast it on gas burner as shown in the image below.
- You can use any one way whichever you find easy.
- Place the roasted papad on the serving plate then add chopped onion, tomatoes, green chilli and coriander leaves.
- Drizzle some coriander and tamarind chutney and i have not added any spices because both the chutney do the work of spices.

- It’s ready to serve, serve it immediately.
Fried papad salad/masala:
- Fry the papad in the refined oil for few seconds, don’t make it brown. drain excess oil and transfer the fried papad to a serving plate.
- Then add chopped onion, tomato, coriander leaves and pomegranate seed.

- Sprinkle some salt, black pepper powder, cumin powder, lemon juice and bhujiya or sev over it.
- Serve it immediately.

Top tips:
- You can use homemade papad too or instead of papad you can even use nachos, roti chips, lays chips or even Kurkure and rest of the method(toppings & seasoning) will be same.
- It is not compulsory to use the same quantity of topping you can increase or decrease the amount according to your choice.
- Serve the papad masala or papad salad immediately as it may become soggy.

2 ways to make masala papad|papad salad|papad chaat

This recipe is very easy to make and can be made under 10 minutes. It is the perfect lazy evening snacks and has endless flavours.
Ingredients
- 2 urad dal papad
- 1 medium size onion
- 1 medium size tomato
- 1 green chilli
- 4 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
- 2 tablespoon pomegranate seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon sev or bhujiya
- 1/2 teaspoon tamarind chutney
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander chutney
Instructions
Roasted masala papad
- Roast the papad then top the roasted papad with chopped onion, tomatoes, green chilli and coriander leaves.
- Then drizzle generous amount of coriander chutney and tamarind chutney. It’s ready to serve.
Fried masala papad
- Fry the papad in hot oil then drain excess oil and transfer it to a serving plate then top it with chopped tomatoes, onion, green chilli, coriander leaves and pomegranate seeds.
- Then sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon of salt, cumin powder, black pepper powder, 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of sev or bhujiya.
- Serve it immediately.
